The 2017 La Confession is endowed with serious depth and unctuousness. Blueberry jam, menthol, licorice, sweet French oak, crème de cassis, spice and new leather are all amped up in this decidedly flamboyant Saint-Émilion. Although not exactly subtle, the 2017 is quite delicious.

Licorice, wet earth, espresso bean and dark, smoky cherries are front and center. It is a touch oaky on the mouth but redeemed with loads of ripe, red fruits, licorice and salty tannins. Allow a few years for the oak to further integrate and this beauty will come together nicely. The wine was made from a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. Due to the frost and a more stringent selection of fruit, close to 70% of the harvest was lost this year.

The 2017 La Confession from Jean-Philippe Janoeix, has a very ripe bouquet with blueberry, black cherries and cassis fruit that feels a little smudged and warm. The palate is medium-bodied with dense tannin, grippy in the mouth but over-extracted and lacking clarity on the finish. There is something a little anachronistic about this Saint-Émilion.

The 2017 La Confession is medium to deep garnet-purple in color with a nose of crushed black plums and mulberries with touches of baking spices and mocha. Medium to full-bodied with great concentration and firm, rounded tannins, it has just enough freshness and a long spicy finish.

Very much in the Janoueix style, this has deep, bright, firm fruits. Its well-extracted dark fruits are a little overly plump, and it could benefit from an injection of juice and freshness through the mid-palate, but it has impressive texture. Skilful winemaking.
