Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Candale offers lovely floral notes of rose hips and lilacs to begin over a core of black cherry compote, warm plums and black raspberries plus wafts of crushed stones and dried leaves. Medium to full-bodied, it has a firm, fine-grained texture and plenty of freshness supporting the fragrant fruit, finishing earthy.

Ripeness is pushed to the edge in the 2018 de Candale. Rich and sumptuous in the glass, the 2018 shows the more opulent side of the vintage. Expressive floral and spice notes add just enough freshness to complement the dark red/purplish berry fruit. There is no shortage of intensity or power in this promising, intriguing Saint-Émilion. The blend is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc.

Showing again what can be done when St-Emilion takes its foot off the pedal and gives the fruit some room to breath, this has firm but juicy raspberry and blackberry fruit and is highly appealing. It demonstrates a well-controlled extraction, being structured but unfussy.
