The 2013 Pavie-Decesse was one of my favorite wines from Gérard Perse when I tasted his range from barrel and it seems to be fulfilling that initial promise. It has a charming bouquet with lively redcurrant jam, strawberry and wild hedgerow aromas that are well defined and perfumed, almost floral in style. The palate is well balanced with sweet tannin on the entry, quite harmonious in the mouth, fleshier than many of its peers with a fresh, candied orange peel and spice box finish that is a treat. Enjoy this lovely Saint Emilion over the next decade.

A pretty and aromatic Pavie-Decesse wtih roses, cedar, wood shavings and bright plums.Medium to full-bodied, firm and silky tannins and a bright finish. Finesse and balance. Better in 2018. But pretty now. Very similar to the excellent 2012.

From a small vineyard of fewer than ten acres on the hillsides above Pavie, this blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc achieved 13.23% natural alcohol. It is a crisp style of wine with noticeable acidity as well as superb fruit, a powdery, rocky, chalky minerality, supple tannins, black currant and black cherry fruit, medium body and a nicely textured, pure style. The tannins are light, but noticeable, and the wine is surprisingly fleshy and reasonably forward. This outstanding effort from the Perse family should drink well for 10-12+ years.

(90 Merlot, 10 Cabernet Franc) 8hl/ha, 80% new oak. More fruit-driven on the nose, but sadly the monstrous oak comes in and dries up any potential fruit available. Oak tannins are sour and sawdusty. Will take ages to calm down if ever.

Succulent cherry fruit. Very high tannic grip, though the texture is very fine. Classic Cabernet structure, with quite a bit of warmth on the finish. Very austere, and it seems that the tannins will outlive the fruit.

The 2013 Pavie-Decesse stands out for its sensual, layered personality and fabulous balance. Deep, savory notes meld into smoke, tobacco, incense, game, licorice and blue/blackish-toned fruit. Violets, lavender cloves, menthol and blueberries are some of the many notes that are woven into the opulent, expressive finish. Broad and ample on the palate, the Pavie-Decesse offers terrific potential for the future. The blend is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Total time on the skins was 34 days, quite long for the year. Tasted twice.

The Pavie-Decesse 2013 has a mixture of red and black fruit and it seems to posses more tension and vigour than the Clos Lunelles, the oak more assimilated and not far removed from that of Château Pavie. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins, firm grip but with a lovely rounded, quite plush finish. This is one of my picks from Gérard Perse this year and vies with Pavie as his best wine.

Aromas of orange peel, minerals and chalk. So citrusy. Full to medium body, firm tannins and a silky texture. Fresh and clean. Juicy wine for the vintage. Love the salty, savory character. Harmonious.

Very juicy, with an engaging raspberry and cherry profile, lined with a plum skin note that eventually gives way to a lightly steeped blood orange hint. The frankly toasted and spiced finish has a slightly chewy edge for now, but the flesh is there. —J.M.

Sattes Purpur-Granat, dicht in der Mitte, lila Schimmer aussen. Dichtes Bouquet voll von kleinen, reifen Beeren vermischt mit frischen Johannisbeeren und Granatapfelkernen, Hagebuttentouch und Kaffee. Im Gaumen schon fast überstoffig, die Säure ist noch etwas dominant, das Extrakt mehlig und fein aufrauhend im Finale Schalenton und wieder knapp reife Johannisbeeren. Ein massives, extrahiert wirkendes Paket mit nur 8 hl/ha Ertrag.

This is an aromatic wine, with great acidity and fine black-currant fruit. An undertow of tight tannin gives it structure, although the fruit is very forward.
