Château Nénin - Pomerol 2011

2011 est le second millésime le plus chaud de la décennie après 2003. Il est surtout marqué par un printemps exceptionnellement chaud et sec conduisant à une date de mi-?oraison parmi les plus précoces. Ces conditions n’ont pas perturbé la vigne jusqu’à la nouaison et la fermeture de la grappe. Les contraintes hydriques très fortes en début de saison ont été modérées par une pluviométrie estivale bien répartie. Mi-juillet, la véraison a démarré lentement sur les Merlots puis s’est accélérée suite à ces pluies. La maturité ?nale a ainsi pu atteindre des niveaux très intéressants en termes de potentiel phénolique, avec une concentration rarement atteinte sur les Cabernets Francs (liée aux conditions exceptionnelles de mi-juin à mi-juillet). Malgré des nuits plus tempérées qu’en 2010, les raisins ont conservé un excellent équilibre sucres/acidité. L’état sanitaire de la vendange a été très satisfaisant. Un deuxième éclaircissage de précision sur les queues de ?oraison a permis d’obtenir une parfaite homogénéité de maturité.

This is the Right Bank outpost of the Delon family that also owns Leoville Las-Cases. While they have made major improvements to Nenin, I feel it still has a Medoc-like personality in spite of the fact it is about 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The 2011 Nenin displays an attractive, clean, raspberry and black currant-scented nose, good richness, and a Medoc-like firmness. It is a medium-bodied, pleasant 2011 to drink over the next 7-8 years.

Direct and lightly firm, with a cherry pit note guiding the core of raspberry and cherry coulis flavors. Light spice and sandalwood shadings course through the lightly taut finish. Best from 2015 through 2020.

Le secret de Nénin 2011 réside dans une sélection drastique : 30% de grand vin. Jean-Hubert Delon a voulu frapper un grand coup, aidé en cela par une machine de tri optique. L'écart entre le grand vin et le deuxième, Fugue de Nénin, est impressionant.

(a 78/22 blend of merlot and cabernet sauvignon): Purple-ruby. Perfumed aromas of cassis, coffee and minerals. Bright, juicy and suave, with pure black fruit and mineral flavors complicated by a touch of chocolate. High but harmonious acidity gives this wine a graceful mouthfeel, which I find to be a welcome dimension if a bit atypical of Nenin. Finishes smooth and persistent. One of the most promising young Nenins in quite some time.

Stricter and more Médocain in style than the opulent 2009. 17% press wine is one of the reasons. It has plenty of lift, length and freshness. Drink 2018-2030.
