(50% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot and 10% cabernet franc; 12.5% alcohol) Good red-ruby color. Dark cherry, licorice, spicy oak and a hint of green pepper on the nose. Supple and smooth, with a light peppery quality and an impression of lowish acidity. An elegant, moderately ripe wine with an attractive floral aspect, this became juicier and sweeter with aeration.

A lovely ripe, fruit-driven nose – very typical of Haut Marbuzet with raspberry, cherry, blood orange and sense of something...Tuscan. The palate is very ripe, good structure, firm tannins, clean fruit – there is good selection here with a ravishing toasty off-dry finish. Very fine, very typical of Haut-Marbuzet. Tasted April 2008.

Toasty, slightly smoky oak. Just a little meaty on the palate, quite light but not thin. Fresh, spicy but rather dry and unforgiving at the end. (JH)
