The 2013 Capbern Gasqueton has a light, savory bouquet with touches of graphite coming through with aeration, though it remains a bit pinched and mean. The palate is medium-bodied with light, rather "stiff" tannin at the moment, moderate depth, a little surly and missing some flesh towards the tapered, dry and earthy finish. Drink this over the next 5 years.

A tight and firm wine with a solid core of fruit with currant and cedar aromas and flavors. Medium body with firm tannins. Used to be Château Capbern-Gasqueton and not just Capbern. Almost all cabernet sauvignon. Drink or hold.

(91 Cabernet Sauvignon, 6 Merlot, 3 Petit Verdot) 13% alcohol, 36 hl/ha. According to winemaker, Vincent Millet, there was much less rain in Saint-Estèphe than in the rest of the northern Médoc. They started picking on 3 October with Merlot and then the 10th for Cabernet Sauvignon. This is the largest Cabernet percentage ever in this wine. No rot, nice balancing acidity, too. Only a touch of Merlot was used from the oldest blocks. This is a juicy, forward and exciting Capbern Gasqueton. It will drink well for a decade and it looks attractive already.

The 2013 Capbern Gasqueton shows lovely immediacy. A rich tapestry of dark red and blue fruits, violets, menthol and spices flow across the palate in a pretty, fruit-driven wine with plenty of near-term appeal. The 2013 Capbern Gasqueton possesses lovely density for the year and terrific overall balance. Best of all, it should be a solid value as well.

The Chateau Capbern-Gasqueton 2013 is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon raised in 30% new wood. It has a light graphite scented bouquet that is a little subdued on the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins; graphite infused black fruit with a light classic finish. This is easy drinking but deftly crafted.

A soft, silky red with spice and berry character. Some hazelnut. Medium body with fine tannins and a fresh finish. Savory and salty. 92% cabernet sauvignon, 8% merlot.

From a property with the same winemaking team as Calon-Ségur, this is a ripe, fruit-forward.  A round body packed with black currant tones confirms the dominance of Cabernet Sauvignon in this wine.
