A blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2013 Carruades de Lafite includes about 50% of the crop. As at many properties in 2013, yields were very small (30 hectoliters per hectare), but that has not resulted in much character or concentration in the wine. It is light to medium ruby-hued with dusty, loamy soil notes, modest, superficial fruit, and a fading, angular finish. Drink it up.

(64 Cabernet Sauvignon, 29 Merlot, 4 Cabernet Franc, 3 Petit Verdot) More structure and vivacity than the other second wines. There is great depth and lovely juiciness here with a touch of spice and liquorice, too. Long and savoury and the flavours broadens with red fruit notes as the oak subsides. Very clever wine and nice acid finish, to, on the end. Magical wine.

The 2013 Carruades de Lafite graces the palate with dark red cherry, plum, spice and tobacco notes. A supple, accessible Pauillac, the 2013 is best enjoyed in its youth, before the fruit begins to fade. The Carruades is 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. Tasted twice.

The Carruades de Lafite is a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. It has quite a floral bouquet with touches of dried violet petals infusing the crisp blackberry fruit, laced with cedar and a touch of smoke. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple entry, starting with black fruit but gently moving to more red fruit towards the finish. There is not the usual persistency, but it has pleasing purity and approachability.

Lovely Lafite fragrance on the nose and almost crunchy fruit on the palate, no  hint of a poor vintage, quite forward for Carruades.

The wine has intense, tight acidity, layered with tannins. Underneath this fresh and structured character there are softer berry fruits. The end has abundant, exciting freshness.

Dunkles Granat, recht satt in der Mitte, rubiner Rand. Delikates Bouquet schöne Cabernetanzeige, leicht tintig mit Cassisstaudentouch. Im Gaumen herrliche Pflaumentöne, mittlerer Körper, aber die Gerbstoffe wissen sehr zu gefallen, aromatisches Finale. Dieser Carruades ein Blend aus vier Sorten, nämlich; 64 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 29 % Merlot, 4 % Cabernet Franc und 3 % Petit Verdot.

Perfumy, with black tea notes out front, followed by racy, tightly focused red currant and black cherry fruit. The sleek, tobacco-fueled finish has a pleasant racy edge. Not dense, but balanced and defined. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Tasted non-blind. —J.M.
