Yattarna Chardonnay - Penfolds - 2013
Launched in 1998 with the 1995 vintage, Yattarna is the result of one of the most complete wine development projects. The aspiration and independence of mind through the generations of winegrowers of Penfolds have persuaded the cellar to embark on the creation of a white wine that stands beside the standards of Grange. Yattarna reflects the patience of Penfolds and the perpetual commitment of its original purpose. Its very name is derived from the Aboriginal language, which means "little by little, little by little. Each vintage is a real challenge for Penfolds. A selective supply of the best Chardonnay fruits from cold regions, combined with sensitive viticulture, allows the style to continue its evolution. Climatic conditions: A hot season led to the growth of vines in southern Tasmania in 2013. Good winter precipitation and warm spring temperatures ensured good fruiting. Winter rains were well received at Adelaide Hills, however windy conditions affected fruit set and yield. The dry and hot conditions of Tasmania that have continued throughout the year have reduced the risk of disease and offered an impressive development of flavors until the harvest in early March. The combination of low harvests and mild conditions during ripening at Adelaïde Hills resulted in good results for traditional markers of natural quality, acidity, fruit concentration and depth of flavor.
