Trotanoy - Pomerol 2015

The 2015 Trotanoy has generous black cherry, blackberry, briary and white pepper aromas on the nose that seem to envelop the senses. There is just a hint of autumn bonfire in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, fresh and nicely poised. A dash of spice toward the peppery finish, hints of Chinese five-spice on the aftertaste. This is a serious and quite compelling Trotanoy for long-term aging, but hey, what's new? Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.

Grand nez, complexe, floral et fruité. Le corps est au diapason. Très belle trame. Corps fuselé, énergique, qui affiche une grande présence et une finale de grand caractère.

The 2015 Trotanoy has an intense bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit, still with a little new oak to be subsumed but there is wonderful delineation here with hints of bay leaf and smoke emerging with time. The palate is grippy on the entry. This is a Pomerol with great backbone and structure and yet there is also wondrous delineation and complexity, a crescendo of flavor with black truffle and allspice emerging toward the persistent finish. Outstanding. Anticipated maturity: 2023 - 2055.

The 2015 Trotanoy is very clearly one of the wines of the vintage. In 2015, Trotanoy captures all the intensity of the year in its ample, full-bodied frame, and yet there is more than enough structure, energy and minerality to play off the wine's more overt leanings. A rush of black cherry, plum, graphite, leather, smoke and game punctuate the huge, tannic finish. What a wine!

Composed of 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc, the 2015 Trotanoy reveals a medium to deep garnet-purple color and comes prancing out of the glass with the most striking black fruit preserves, plum pudding, red currant jelly and blueberry compote notions, followed up by nuances of rose petals, chocolate box, licorice and menthol plus a waft of wild mushrooms. Full-bodied, rich and decadent, it fills the palate with generous perfumed black and blue fruit layers with a seductive frame of velvety tannins and seamless freshness, finishing very long and very minerally.

This is laden with fig bread, ganache, smoldering tobacco, warm currant confiture and fig paste aromas and flavors that rumble through a charcoal-tinged finish. Dense, but the grip is thoroughly melded with the fruit, giving this a very composed feel through the lengthy finish. Best from 2024 through 2040. 1,718 cases made.  –JM

Breathtaking aromas of perfectly ripe fruit with blackberries, black olives, licorice, cedar and sweet tobacco. Full body, incredible depth and power, yet this is always in reserve and check. Everything is in the right place for this new legend from Trotanoy. Try it in 2026. Will age for decades in the future.

The power of this Trotanoy is unmistakable, and there is no question as to its confidence and poise. It showcases layer upon layer of graphite, liquorice, damson, slate, black cherry and cassis. There's fresh lift on the finish, and tannins that play with you for as long as you let them. Put this away for a decade.

Managed by the talented Moueix team, the 2015 Château Trotanoy is a ripe, hedonistic, heady beauty that boasts awesome notes of ripe cherry fruit, toasted spices, fruit cake, and forest floor, with more floral and incense nuances coming through with time in the glass. A blend of 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc, this full-bodied, sexy, exotic, and beautifully textured 2015 has sweet tannin, moderate acidity, and a great finish. It needs 4-5 years of bottle age to round into form but will impressive for 20+ years. 95+

Château Trotanoy The depth of fruit and length to this is spectacular, with blackberry, wet earth, dark bitter chocolate and blueberry character. It’s full and powerful, and absolutely seamless. Perhaps the greatest wine ever made here. 93% merlot and 7% cabernet franc. 99-100 points

The 2015 Trotanoy is a blend of 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc. It has a fragrant bouquet, unusually understated and introverted for Trotanoy, with tightly wound, gravel-scented black fruit, touches of dried orange peel and truffle in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, tensile tannin. Again, this feels compact, dense, a coiled spring perhaps, but there is plenty of energy here. Perhaps in the long-term, the Hosanna and the La Fleur Petrus might be the picks from JP Moueix in this great Pomerol vintage, but Trotanoy always springs a surprise once in bottle. Trotanoy - an enigma eternal, but we would not want it any other way. Drink 2022-2045

Incredibly sensuous with cashmere tannins and a hedonistic personality, this feels like polished velvet on your palate. The fruits are perfectly ripe, sweet, fresh and pure, moving from dark plums to black cherries and back again. The wine is light on its feet, but in a good way, as there is a wealth of fruit in every sniff, sip and opulently-textured taste. This is an indulgence of pleasure at its best.

Trotanoy à son plus haut niveau avec une attaque soyeuse et énergique et un volume de bouche qui possède l’éclat des plus grands vins de la Rive droite. Il n’est encore que dans ses langes, mais quel éclat.

True to character. Subtle and reserved on the nose but exudes depth and power. Dark fruit and mineral complexity apparent. Beautifully structured palate combining the richness of fruit, abundant, ripe tannins and freshness. Overall great harmony and staying power.2025-2050

The 2015 Trotanoy is one of the most exciting wines of the vintage. Inky, powerful and ample, the 2015 is all about raw energy. A host of dark cherry, plum, smoke, gravel and mineral nuances take shape in the glass. Don't expect the 2015 to be ready anytime soon. The tannins are going to need time to settle down. Still, the wine's pure power is remarkable. Trotanoy is 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc.

Bordeaux 2015 - Pomerol, Lalande-de-Pomerol, Fronsac | Articles | JancisRobinson.com A Jean-Pierre Moueix wine. 93% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc. Clayey gravel and black clay on an iron pan. Notably dark crimson. Very savoury, with marked acidity and freshness. Yet it is more concentrated than any other J-P Moueix wine. A slow burner but should be exciting eventually.  Drink 2025-2040 17.5+

95–97. Barrel Sample. This dense wine is firm with dark tannins and concentrated fruits. This wine shows power and density, with black fruits followed by serious, long-lived tannins and a powerful structure.

Extrem dunkles Purpur. 20/20 2026 – 2055

Packed from the get-go, with tightly coiled dark fig, blackberry and black currant paste notes, while singed alder and juniper accents form the frame. Roasted tobacco and dark earth elements takes over on the brick house finish. A very strong showing.—J.M.
