Aromas of blueberry, black currant and stone. Full body, very structured and chewy. Lots of cabernet sauvignon undertones. Very salty. Needs time to soften. Give it two or three years to soften

The classic Pauillac notes of cedar wood, Christmas fruitcake and creme de cassis make an appearance in this wine. With vineyards well-situated on the so-called Milon Plateau adjacent to vineyards owned by Mouton Rothschild and Lafite Rothschild, its neighborhood is luxury-class and the wine is beginning to reflect that. It is medium to full-bodied, shows good, even excellent depth, impressive purity, no herbaceousness or astringency and plenty of blue and black fruits that are often characteristic of a top Pauillac. The tannins are light, so the wine is best drunk in its first 10-12 years of life.

A long-time underachiever, and probably the worst Pauillac-classified growth for decades, this estate is finally returning to form since it was purchased in 2009 by French real estate mogul Jacky Lorenzetti. Enormous investments have been made in the vineyard and winery, and this is now a well-run, state-of-the-art operation in which the resulting product is reflected. The final blend when tasted was 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc. Production is relatively small, up to 25% less than in 2012, due to the low yields of the vintage as well as the selection process.

Decent fruit intensity and while not completely ripe there is some good weight and nice balance. The tannins are a little hard but these will even out leaving a fairly simple wine.

The 2013 Pedesclaux fleshes out nicely in the glass. Dark red cherry, plum, new leather and menthol notes wrap around the juicy, layered finish.  The 2013 isn't super complex, but it is delicious and should drink beautifully upon release. There is a lot to like here. The blend is 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc. Tasted twice.

Progrès importants et évolution très prometteuse pour le cru, qui dispose d’une remarquable qualité de terroir, boisé exact, tannin racé, type Pauillac évident. Bel avenir et rapport qualité-prix évident

The Pédesclaux has quite an open bouquet that feels a little forced and one-dimensional: ripe kirsch and strawberry fruit but it is missing some delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe soft tannins, gentle grip but just a little dryness towards the finish. Trying too hard? It might calm down and find a modicum of decorum by the time of bottling.

Purple-red, rich Cabernet-Merlot nose, good ripeness and very modern Pauillac,  this château is on the way up.

Spice, berry and cedar character. Full and silky. Excellent intensity.

Features relatively juicy plum and black cherry fruit, backed by a briary feel and picking up hints of cassis bush and savory on the finish. Not particularly angular or austere, but not as dense as the best efforts from the vintage. A solid effort. —J.M.
