Magnum Château Rauzan Ségla - Margaux 2006

The winter was slightly rainy in Margaux and the temperatures were cold. This cold intensified in February recording significant rainfall. The spring started in the rain with a very wet March and then followed very dry months of April, May and June. Bud burst began in early April for Merlots and mid-April for Cabernet Sauvignon. The first flowers appeared around May 25 and no precipitation occurred during flowering. The summer was hot and dry: drought marked, for the third year in a row, our name with a water deficit of 30%. The veraison was observed mid-July and its evolution was very slow during the month of August, fresh and rainy. Maturation benefited from the warm weather of the first fortnight of September, when the rain disrupted the quality of the grapes. More than ever, the management of the vineyard has been decisive: the sanitary condition has remained very good during the entire harvest period. Hand-picked grapes in a crate. Fortunately the preparation of the vine, the selection of grapes during the green harvest and the wind that blew during all the grape harvest allowed to have a healthy grape. For this vintage, the property has fully benefited from the firing tables, before and after destacking, and the skills of our sorters to be very rigorous in our selection. Vinfication: Alcoholic fermentations took place for 6/7 days. Windings: twice a day, 2.5 times the volume of the tank. Temperature: 27 ° C. Malolactic fermentation in vats, and some lots in barrels. Aging: 60% new barrels.
