The 2020 Haut-Bergey is a potent, brooding wine. Huge tannins wrap around a core of dark red/purplish fruit. It will be interesting to see if the 2020 softens. Today it is decidedly brooding and tannic. Game, scorched earth and spice add to an impression of dark intensity.

Deeply colored, the 2020 Château Haut-Bergey boasts full-bodied, mouth-filling amounts of black and blue fruits supported by notes of celery seed, dark chocolate, and earth. It’s one big mouthful of a 2020, and although It leaves a bit of elegance to be desired, it certainly brings the fruit.

The 2020 Haut-Bergey has a light mulch and undergrowth bouquet that needs more cohesion and fruit intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly green tannins, one in a series of herbal Haut-Bergey wines that feel bitter on the finish.

I love the texture to this wine, where the slate and crushed stone slows the whole thing down. Great combination of seductive fleshy peach and pear fruits and a tight tug of well-measured phenolics. Organic and biodynamic.

Strong notes of espresso bean, spice, mint, herbs and dark red fruits come to surface with little effort. On the palate, you find lush, round, sweet, glossy, polished ripe red fruits, soft textures and silky tannins in the round finish. 90-92

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2020 Haut Bergey strides out of the glass with notes of stewed black and red plums, baked blackberries and Morello cherries, plus touches of tar, unsmoked cigars and charcuterie with a touch of bay leaves. The medium-bodied palate has a pleasant chewiness and just enough freshness to frame the black fruit layers, finishing long and savory.
