The 2018 Fayat, a Pomerol that I did not taste out of barrel, is tightly wound on the nose, eventually revealing black fruit, scorched earth and touches of leather and truffle. This feels uncharacteristically introverted. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit struck through with a fine bead of acidity. Good energy here, more focus than recent vintages and plenty of tension on the spicy finish. This is one to watch.

Alluring, with a caressing feel from start to finish, as steeped plum and blackberry fruit flavors meld with a mix of anise, fruit cake and licorice root notes, followed by a hint of subtle dark earth at the very end. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2030. 3,333 cases made. –JM

Belle complexité dans le bouquet de Fayat avec des notes de myrtilles, de mûres et de poivre de Sichuan. Caractère juteux et friand en bouche. Le vin est légèrement crémeux et affiche une belle intensité aromatique grâce au soutien inconditionnel de la structure acide. Finale fruitée et persistante. Une très belle réussite.

Château Fayat a 10ha en production. Vignoble très morcelé avec une quarantaine de parcelles, donc une pluralité de terroirs. Tout s’est bien passé en 2018 à Fayat et les rendements moyens atteignent 47hl/ha. Tout comme à la Dominique l’élevage se fait dans différents contenants mais sur des petits lots afin de comparer l’impact du contenant sur telle ou telle parcelle ou sorte de cépage. Il y a de l’amphore, des cuves (90% des FML) des barriques. 80% sera élevé en barriques (dont 50% neuves et 50% un vin) 13% en cuve et le reste dans d’autres contenant dont amphore et œuf polymère). Pourpre violacé. Bouquet élégant et complexe avec des notes de cerises et de cannelle. Touche minérale. Attaque agréable, invitante. Au palais, le vin est onctueux, équilibré et doté de tannins parfaitement intégrés. Ces derniers sont légèrement suaves et disposent d’une belle matière qu’ils mettent parfaitement à contribution afin d’être en symbiose avec la race de la structure. 2023-2033
