Attractive notes of black currants, fruitcake, cedarwood and loamy soil intermingled with kirsch and blacker fruits emerge from this dense ruby/purple-tinged 2003. Medium- to full-bodied with fully resolved tannins as well as good freshness and precision, it can be enjoyed over the next decade.

From a 41-acre vineyard situated on St.-Emilion’s limestone plateau, Beau-Sejour-Becot’s blend can vary, but it is approximately 70% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon. Production can be as low as 4,000+ cases (in a tiny vintage such as 2003), or as high as 7,000+ cases (in an abundant year such as 2004). The 2003, which reminds me of a 1990 Right Bank Bordeaux, tips the scales at 13.5% alcohol. Its dark plum/ruby/purple color is followed by a sweet nose of creosote, scorched earth, black cherries, currants, and pain grille. Deep, full-flavored, muscular, textured, and rich with light to moderate tannin in the finish, this lavishly rich, full-bodied effort requires 1-3 years of bottle age, and should drink well over the following 12-

Opulent aromas of ripe fruit, toasted oak and grilled meat. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and loads of fruit and lightly toasted oak. Very long and delicious. Balanced wine. Best after 2010. 4,665 cases made.

Généreux et expressif, joliment épicé, ce cru extraverti impressionne tout en masquant ses qualités de fond, de concentrationsous un boisé très adroit.

A modern-styled (some would say internationally oriented because of its prominent, sweet vanillin oakiness), sensual, concentrated, opulently-textured offering, the 2003 offers a heady concoction of smoky cherry and black currant fruit, full body, a voluptuous texture, and a long, sweet finish displaying notions of caramel and cherry jam. While it may not be long-lived, it is undeniably impressive and delicious. Anticipated maturity: now-2016.

Lots of oak obscures the true character of this at present, while tannins are high but ripe. Underneath, there's bright, raspberryand blackcurrant fruit with considerable structure supporting. The length is a bit oaky at present, but it finishes on fruit.(CM,RJ,DS) 2012-2025

Inky/purple to the rim, this wine’s exceptionally low acidity gives it a fleshy, fat textural profile. With 14.5% alcohol, it is a blend of 70% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon. Concentrated, dense, chewy, broad, and almost New World-ish, it should evolve quickly given its low acidity, but there is so much concentration, it should last for two decades. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2018.
