Solid Pessac with currants, hot stones and crushed berries that follow through to a medium to full body, firm tannins and a fresh, bright finish. A blend of 50% cabernet sauvignon, 45% merlot and 5% petit verdot. Drink after 2021.

This is loaded with bright, honeysuckle-gilded flavors of yellow apple, white peach and pineapple core, as well as verbena and shortbread accents that hang deftly in the background, all set against a bracing salted butter note. Lovely now, but cellar briefly for a slightly broader effect. Drink now through 2024. 1,333 cases made.  –JM

The inky-colored 2017 Château Couhins has medium-bodied notes of blackberries, plums, crushed rocks, and the classic tobacco and earthiness that’s the hallmark of the Pessac region. It’s moderately concentrated, has fine tannin and a good finish.

The 2017 Couhins-Lurton is fruity, supple an open-knit, with lovely presence in its dark red/purplish berry fruit. This tasty, mid-weight red offers considerable near and medium term appeal.

Soft, fresh red fruits, wafts of tobacco and smoke work perfectly with this medium bodied, elegant style. It will not only be enchanting upon release but it can age for a decade as well.

The 2017 Couhins-Lurton is deep garnet-purple colored with a nose of crushed blackberries, black raspberries and blueberries plus touches of lilacs and dried Provence herbs. The palate is medium-bodied, providing a plush texture and plenty of freshness, finishing fruity.

Some pretty cool fruit to this young wine with blackberry and mineral character. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and a delicious finish. Very well done for the vintage.

Fresh and pure, with a tasty beam of cassis and cherry puree flavors flecked with a light iron hint. Sleek finish.—J.M.

Soft and fruity, this is a generous wine that will develop quickly. It shows ripe red fruits and gentle tannins with wood flavors on the finish. Drink from 2022.
