Chateau Quinault The Enclos - Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2014

After a white or rather black season in 2013 due to the haze, Quinault L'Enclos appears in its fullness with the vintage 2014: the microclimate of this vineyard town, near the Dordogne allowed the Merlots to dominate the property of To express fully. The color reflects a beautiful concentration, dark red. The nose evokes the fresh plum and a fruity cherry cherries, all slightly minty. The mouth is fresh, lively, dominated by the fruit. The tannins are coated, the long finish is marked by notes of red fruits.

The 2014 Quinault L'Enclos is super-impressive. Ripe, silky tannins and a sense of textural finesse are two of the key signatures. Sweet dark cherries, graphite, spices, rose petals and mint are all laced together in an exquisite, supple St.-Emilion endowed with total class. Above all else, the 2014 speaks to refinement. What a gorgeous wine this is. The blend is 69% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Cabernet Franc.

Black cherry, kirsch and licorice on the nose, this wine is elegant, refined and ripe with fresh, pleasing, cherry character. Blending 69% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Cabernet Franc, the new owners have included their recent plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon for the first time and it has certainly added depth to the blend. 90-92 Pts

The Château Quinault l’Enclos 2014 is a blend of 69% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Cabernet Franc. Incidentally, there is now some Cabernet Sauvignon on the gravel soils that was planted in 2009. There is a second change here apropos the size of the barrels – 500-liters instead of 225-liters as they do not desire oaky notes on the nose. The nose is sensual, rounded and generous with a light sea spray influence that lends complexity. The palate is medium-bodied, structured and masculine with good density, though I was seeking a little more flesh and finesse towards the spicy, broody finish. That may come with barrel age. We will see. I will remain parsimonious with my score for now.

A Merlot-based red that is luscious, juicy and generous. Plum, blackberry and cocoa notes with good finish. In this vintage, the Merlot was selected and the best came from gravel soils. Forward, fresh flavors that will be approachable young.

69% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon. Same team as Cheval Blanc. The new benchmark for this wine. Fragrant and floral. Gentle texture and tannins. Linear, fresh and digest. Drink: 2018-2028 (88)

13% Cabernet Franc, 69% Merlot, the rest Cabernet Sauvignon. Two-thirds new oak and only 500-l casks. They have deliberately made the wines less ripe with lots of replanting with Cabernet Sauvignon especially on gravel.
Dark ruby. Rich and voluptuous with a meaty finish and much fresher than the old style. Clean fresh finish. Maybe not that opulent.

This shows lots of fruit and structure with juicy fruit, velvety tannins and a long and flavorful finish. This has 18% cabernet sauvignon and it makes a difference, 13% cabernet franc and the rest merlot. They also aged a large percentage in 500 lters. This shows depth.

90–92. Barrel Sample. The owners of Cheval Blanc bought this small vineyard, surrounded by the Right Bank Libourne suburbs, in 2008. With this vintage, it is showing its potential with fine acidity from the Cabernet in the blend and soft tannins that envelop the ripe fruit.

A loamy edge provides spine to the red currant and warmed plum notes. Lingering alder and iron hints add range. This has more depth than usual.Tasted
