The charming (and talented) Jeremy Chasseuil has turned out a brilliant 2017 Feytit-Clinet from his tiny estate located between Trotanoy and Latour a Pomerol. Based on 94% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc aging in 65% new French oak, it offers a gorgeous nose of ripe black and blue fruits, violets, and damp earth, with impeccably integrated sweet oak. Full-bodied, rounded, and concentrated, it plays in the fresh, elegant style of the vintage, yet packs more oomph and texture than most. This is brought in exclusively by American merchant Jeffrey Davies and is well worth your time and money.

Belle robe sombre. Nez sur les baies des bois, les fruits macérés. Entrée en bouche pulpeuse avec une jolie texture flexible, d’une belle consistance. L’aromatique se déploie autour de cette chair veloutée. Beaucoup de charme sur ce vin qui délivre un plaisir immédiat.

A wine of real distinction and class, the 2017 Feytit-Clinet possesses tremendous intensity and exceptional balance. Inky black cherry, lavender, charred earth and licorice, along with potent tannins, give Feytit-Clinet its explosive rich personality. As always, Feytit-Clinet is an especially virile, tannic Pomerol. All the elements are wonderfully fused together. The 2017 was tremendous on each of the three occasions I tasted it. In a word: Superb.

Medium bodied, fresh, sweet and already showing off its black raspberry, floral, truffle and licorice filled character. Silky, and sweet, this will show well young and age for 20 years without trouble. The wine is made from a blend of 94% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc reaching 14% alcohol.

The 2017 Feytit-Clinet has quite a complex bouquet with red berry fruit, a touch of seaweed and smoke. It is not as powerful as the previous two vintages although it displays impressive focus. The palate is very refined on the entry, silky smooth in texture (as usual) with a fine bead of acidity. It just needs to manifest more precision towards the finish but that will hopefully develop during its barrel maturation. I have been a big supporter of Jeremy Chasseuil’s often over-looked Pomerol and though, this is not from his top-drawer, it still shows potential. I am prudent with my assessment for now.

The present blend of the 2017 Feytit Clinet is 94% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc. Very deep purple-black in color, it gives up crushed black plums, blackberries and mulberries with hints of spice box, sandalwood and wood smoke. The palate is medium-bodied, firm, chewy and quite earthy in the mouth with just enough freshness and those spices reemerge on the finish.

Structured and extracted, with some cocoa bean and liquorice emphasis. You can see where owner Jérémy Chasseuil is going with this, as it displays cassis and extremely tight ground coffee bean flavours. Overall there is not a lot of light being let in, yet it just doesn't seem ripe enough to support the ambition.

This wine is firmly structured with rich blackberry fruit notes. A flavor of bitter chocolate gives the wine a burnt toast edge that needs to soften if the wine is to come together.
