Petits fruits noirs, notes de pruneau, ronce floral. Bouche tonique, friande, gourmande, tannins amples et enrobés, finale graphite.

The 2016 Dassault has a composed and detailed bouquet with perfumed black cherry and boysenberry fruit, perhaps more focused than the 2015 last year. The palate is sweet and grippy on the entry with layers of licorice-tinged black fruit. This is a powerful and voluminous Dassault that might miss some of the finesse of its peers, although it maintains admirable purity until its heady finish.

Superbe!

The 2016 Dassault is an inky, powerful wine. Succulent red cherry, espresso, mocha, crème de cassis and chocolate abound. This is in an especially powerful, extracted style. Today, the tannins are huge and imposing, but if they settle down, the 2016 will come in at the higher end of my range. Tasted two times.

(73 Merlot, 22 Cabernet Franc, 5 Cabernet Sauvignon) | 70% new oak | 14.5% alc. Concentrated, slightly dry and tart and not overly long, this is a safe Dassault which doesn’t put a foot wrong, but equally doesn’t show as much flair as it can. The nose signals that the fruit is classy, but it is too short for a larger score. 17

Very dark blackish crimson. Extremely ripe nose - almost brûlée, taken to the limit of ripeness. Then on the palate it's challengingly reminiscent of dried charcoal. Extreme! And not really comfortable to taste. Exaggerated.

Barrel Sample. Dense, dry tannins dominate this wine. It makes it hard to discern the fruit. Will it soften? Certainly, although the structure will likely remain firm.

Dark and juicy in style, with lots of fig and plum paste flavors laced liberally with brambly grip. Good anise and graphite notes stream underneath. A hefty wine, but has the cut to pull it off.—J.M.

A layered and pretty young red with blackberries, blueberries and hints of chocolate. Medium-bodied, polished and velvety. Shows balance and potential.
