The beautiful 2008 exhibits a dark plum/ruby/purple color as well as jammy red and black fruit, crushed rock and floral notes. If this were a Burgundy, one might think of it as a grand cru Musigny. With excellent texture, medium to full body and stunning purity as well as nobility, this fascinating Pomerol should drink well for 15-20 years. Drink 2011-2031

Very floral with sweet berries and cherries on the nose. Full to medium-body, with bright and intense fruit, super silky tannins and a citrus aftertaste. Live wire of a wine. Very precise. Best after three or four years of bottle age.

Racy and focused, with a mouthwatering edge to the raspberry ganache, graphite and floral notes, all stretched out by fine minerality on the persistent finish. Very solid. Cellaring should add a touch more. Drink now throught 2016. -J.M.

Dunkles Rubingranat, violette Randaufhellung.

(86% merlot and 14% cabernet franc; 13.3% alcohol) Bright red-ruby. Sappy, floral aromas of black cherry, minerals and sweet licorice are perked up by an exciting minty twist. Suave on entry, then fresh and alive in the middle palate, with noteworthy intensity to the black cherry and licorice flavors. There is lovely definition and good mineral lift to the long, polished finish in what is a very refined version of La Conseillante.

This estate has long been known for its elegant, complex, racy, supple, delicious wines, but the 2008 is more massive, structured, and concentrated than usual. There is a lot going on in this richer, more tannic effort. No one will be disappointed, but purchasers should not expect a wine that will be drinkable upon release. A dense ruby/purple color as well as plenty of concentration, sweet, but elevated tannins, and a huge finish suggest this estate is moving in the direction of Gazin, Lafleur, and Trotanoy. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2030. 92-94+

I love Conseillante, they have made some the best Pomerols of recent years, but I cannot get away from the fact that there is a little greenness on the nose. The palate is much better: medium-bodied, fine tannins, a real sense of tension and vibrancy. Maraschino, raspberry and redcurrant with good mineralité coming through on the finish although it does lack some depth on the admittedly fresh, urgent finish. This sample is somewhat “paradoxical”…need to re-taste this. Tasted April 2009.

Couleur rouge, sombre vive.

90% of production. Merlot with 14% Cabernet Franc. 90% new oak but with malo in tank not barrel. Zesty nose. Fresh, fine nose. Subtle and juicy and really rather glorious. That’s my only criticism. Easy to like. Very sweet and engaging with good dynamism but just a hint of sawdust. Lots of oak! Very polished – though a little bit dry on the finish. Drink 2015-27

Close in style and quality to the very good 2006. Has a bright, lively expression of fruit, mid-palate density and fine, fresh tannins. The 90% oak is well integrated. Drink 2016-2030.

Blackberries and other black fruits on the nose. Full and compacted, with lots of ripe and silky tannins. Long and structured. Very pretty wine. 86 percent Merlot, 14 percent Cabernet Franc.
