Castle Cambon La Pelouse - Haut-Médoc 2015

2015: A surprising vintage ... and a nice gift! We could summarize the 2015 weather in two words: warm and dry. Dry, since the water deficit was less than 100 mm (especially May, June and July) to the average thirty years. Warm, the average temperature in Aquitaine in 2015 is higher by 0.50 ° C with as paradox: colder in winter and warmer in summer. Flowering is very homogeneous (90% over 72 hours) and fruit set is reached around June 5th. Water deficit and high temperatures slowed down the phenology of the vine until early August. The veraison is acquired towards August 10 with the first rains that boost the phenology in an explosive way. Our filtering floors have allowed the berries to increase in volume. In September, the stormy episodes avoided the southern Médoc. Work on the vineyard in this climatic context was adapted to each plot (44 plots followed). Depending on the grape variety, the orientation, the foliar development and the load, we adapted our work. During the harvest, we took our time (22 days instead of 16 or 17), health status was never a constraint. In the cellar, on the advice of Hubert de Boüard, we had a duty to preserve the richness of this vintage (see below, vinification). The dominant characteristics of the vintage 2015: aromatic richness and quality of the tannins. This vintage 2015 is a real gift for the 20th anniversary as a winegrower.

Oaky, with sweet cherries and licorice that are easy to find, the wine is medium bodied and forward, with a hint of cocoa along with the dark red fruits in the finish. This is a wine you can drink early.

The 2015 Cambon La Pelouse is dark, juicy and quite expressive. Black cherry, menthol, licorice, coffee and leather meld together as this supple, expressive Haut-Médoc opens up in the glass. The 2015 is really quite lovely and delicious. It will be interesting to see if the tannins soften a bit from here. Hints of tobacco and savory herbs add the closing shades of aromatic nuance. The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot. Tasted two times.

Barrel Sample. This wine is soft, with light tannins and ripe black plum fruits. The structure only comes through slowly to balance a wine that will be for medium-term aging. 88 points

Toll gelungen. Der beste seit 2010. 18/20 2022 – 2038

The 2015 Cambon la Pelouse has quite a rich bouquet with small red cherries, kirsch and blackcurrant aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry, quite pure in the mouth, though it needs a little more complexity to develop on the finish that just trails away at the moment.
