Carruades of Lafite - Château Lafite-Rothschild - Pauillac 2015

In 2015, the climate of the Bordeaux region was warm and the rainfall was very contrasted with, between our various properties of the region, deviations of nearly 300 mm on the year to date. As a recurring phenomenon in recent years, the beginning of the winter has been mild and dry and it is only at the end of January that the beneficial cold has arrived, accompanied by precipitation. The bud burst began at the beginning of April as usual and the vine then developed rapidly thanks to the water reserves and the temperate climate. In June, the flowering was early and homogeneous, promising index before harvest. Summer has seen the temperature often exceed 35 ° C at L'Evangile and Rieussec, where Lafite Rothschild and Duhart-Milon benefited from the influence of the ocean and the estuary. Everywhere, the water stress was high, but the rains of August brought the freshness necessary for the veraison and then a perfect maturation. The ideal conditions were gathered at the time of the harvest, making it possible to obtain the best of each terroir: the result is a source of hope.

Robe d’une belle intensité. Très jolie aromatique, ouverte, sur les fruits frais avec une touche mentholée. Élégant dans sa texture, précis dans ses articulations, il révèle une véritable finesse et sa finale se caractérise par une dimension séveuse.

The aroma of licorice, cassis and a sweet, smoky zest is the overture to this medium-bodied, enchantingly fresh, energetic wine. The tannins are soft, closing with a note of pure cherries and cassis. This wine was made from a blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc.

The 2015 Carruades de Lafite is a blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc. This has a satisfying purity on the nose: blackberry and briary, a distant, cold slate-like note just underneath, with the new oak (close to 20%) neatly subsumed. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. There is moderate depth to this slightly foursquare and conservative Carruades, but there is also plenty of freshness and it has an appealing, unassuming finish that is both harmonious and precise. Probably one of the most approachable deuxième vins, afford this 2-3 years in bottle before broaching.

The2015 Carruades de Lafite is a very pretty second wine. Dark, sensual and inviting, the 2015 Carruades is super-expressive today. Graphite, plum, black cherry, lavender and licorice are all nicely delineated throughout. The higher presence of Merlot gives the Carruades lovely inner sweetness and perfume. This is very nicely done.

A discreet nose of real finesse with the Lafite violets prettily present. While it seems on the light side now, time in barrel will add structure.

57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc.
Relatively light crimson. Light, rather timid nose. Drying tannins on the end. Very pretty and polite but not at all dramatic!

Barrel Sample. This is a fine reflection of the quality of Pauillac. It has a serious tannic line that cuts through the black currant fruits, and an impressive amount of acidity. It develops slowly, giving plenty of time to admire the fruit along the way. 94 points

Tiefes Purpur. 17/20 2022 – 2038

A silky and fine second wine of Lafite with blueberry, blackberry and flower aromas and flavors. Cedar and nuts too.
