The 2015 Monbousquet Blanc d’Exception has an uncomplicated bouquet with scents of honeysuckle and dried pineapple, a touch of lemon sherbet in the background. The palate is fresh and clean on the entry with gooseberry, Granny Smith apples and pear, nicely balanced if just needing more tension to come through on the finish. Fine. Anticipated maturity: 2018 - 2023.

A plush, voluptuous wine, the 2015 Angélique de Monbousquet shows quite a bit better from bottle than it did from barrel. Espresso, mocha, plum, chocolate, licorice and dried herbs emerge from this racy, opulent Saint-Émilion. The 2015 is not especially complex, but it is flat-out delicious and also a terrific choice for drinking over the next handful of years.

This vintage of the second wine of Château Monbousquet is composed of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and was aged 100% in one-year-old barrels. Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Angelique de Monbousquet features earthy/meaty notes of dusty soil and charcuterie with a core of crushed blackberries and plums plus wafts of bay leaves and pencil lead. Medium to full-bodied, the palate reveals a firm frame of chewy tannins and a savory character, finishing on a mineral note.

Spices and dark fruit with decadent earth and white-truffle aromas. Full body, round and velvety tannins and a fruity finish. So velvety and delicious. Second wine of Monbousquet. Drink in 2020.

Young vines and press wine of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet. Spicy and fragrant; round and forward in style. Slight grainy tannins and a dry finish. 2021-2030

The 2015 Angélique de Monbousquet is a blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Merlot. It has a ripe, candied bouquet with dark cherries mixed with blueberry and a hint of licorice. The palate is sweet and rounded with dusty black fruit, good weight in the mouth, but rather broody and sulky on the finish. I would like the contrast turned up, especially considering that it is a deuxième vin. It just needs more joie de vivre.

The 2015 Angélique de Monbousquet is dark, succulent and super-expressive. Sweet tobacco, menthol, licorice and red cherry notes meld together in a deep, unctuous second wine from Monbousquet. The style is ripe, forward and juicy. Scents of mocha, espresso and a host of torrefaction notes give the 2015 much of its dark, spiced personality, but the fruit is also a bit roasted.

91–93. Barrel Sample. This wine is rich in ripe blackberry flavors and a generous texture. It has a soft, full-bodied character that makes for a rounded wine.
